For the first time in the young 2021 Major League Baseball (MLB season), the New York Yankees have shown life. Looking to avoid a sweep at Tropicana Field on Sunday, The Bronx Bombers needed a solid outing from starting pitcher Jordan Montgomery and their offense. Neither team could find their bats in the first, and the Yanks were blanked in the top of the second.

In the bottom of the second, Rays catcher Mike Zunino took Montgomery deep for a two-run homer. Gio Urshela returned the favor in the top of the third, blasting a two-run home run.

Both teams exchanged runs the rest of the way, resulting in a 4-4 tie-game. To extra innings, we go!

The Yankees went off in the top of the tenth, scoring four runs. They shut down the Rays in the bottom of the tenth, winning the game 814 and avoiding the sweep.

A much-needed win was achieved, and the Yankees need to build off this and make up ground in the standings after a poor start to the season. They look to keep it going and take on the Toronto Blue Jays on Monday, with first pitch set for 7:07 PM Eastern Time.
