It seems like the All Elite Wrestling Roster is stacked. Their payroll is seemingly endless, and it's just "The More, The Merrier" in their eyes. What do you do with all these Wrestlers? It's the Vince Russo philosophy. Gotta have Factions! And boy, does AEW have Factions and Stables! And with the number of factions and Stables they have, I feel like it's time to Introduce Trios (Six-Man Tag Team) Championships!
In Pro Wrestling Today, Ring of Honor, New Japan, and AAA all have Six-Man Titles. Lucha Underground had Trios Titles as well (in place of Traditional Tag Titles actually) while they were in Business. So this is not a New Concept that I'm coming up with here. But with the size of the AEW Roster, how does a 16 Team Tournament sound to crown the 1st Champions? Yup! They have the numbers to do it!!! Here are 16 Teams that could compete for the AEW Trios Championships.
*The Elite (Kenny Omega & The Young Bucks)
*The Nightmare Family (Cody Rhodes, Dustin Rhodes & QT Marshall)
*Hangman Adam Page and Two Partners of his Choosing
*Jurassic Express (Luchasaurus, Jungle Boy & Marko Stunt)
*The Death Triangle (PAC & The Lucha Bros)
*Team Taz (Brian Cage, Ricky Starks & Powerhouse Hobbs)
*Best Friends & Orange Cassidy
*SoCal Uncensored (Christopher Daniels, Frankie Kazarian & Scorpio Sky)
*Eddie Kingston, The Butcher & The Blade
*Dark Order (Evil Uno, Stu Grayson & Colt Cabana)
*Dark Order (Alex Reynolds, John Silver & Alan Angels)
*FTR & Shawn Spears
*Matt Hardy & Private Party
*Gunn Club (Billy, Austin & Colton Gunn)
*The Inner Circle (Chris Jericho, Jake Hager & MJF)
*The Inner Circle (Sammy Guevara, Santana & Oritz)
And these are just 16 I could think of off the top of my head. And as you can see, Factions such as the Inner Circle and Dark Order are big enough where they can enter two teams! Plus, AEW is ever-growing, and with so many younger independent wrestlers competing on Dark every Tuesday, that I'm sure, if need be, you could expand this tournament. I feel 16 is good enough.
A lot of these Factions or Stables could use a Trios Championship as their way of asserting their dominance against other groupings. Like the Current Situation with the Death Triangle currently at war with Eddie Kingston and his Family. Throw the Trios Titles in there as the extra log on the fire, where whoever wins and walks away as the champions, will be considered the best faction in the company!
If this were to play out, I would like to see a team like Jurassic Express become the First Champions. Luchasaurus and Jungle Boy are Day 1 AEW guys. Marko Stunt fits right in with them, as they have competed on numerous occasions as a Trio. In probably their most significant outing as a unit, they put on a Helluva performance in a losing effort against The Elite at Fight for the Fallen. Not to mention, in a Stacked Tag Team Division, Jurassic Express can easily get lost in the shuffle. They've challenged for the Tag Titles and came up short. And honestly, who knows if they'll ever win the Tag Titles in AEW. But if they had Trios Titles to fight for and win, that would put a Spot Light on them that they might not get again with teams like the Young Bucks, FTR, Best Friends always being in the Title Picture.
I feel like this would be very beneficial for AEW to do, especially with the number of Quality Factions and Stables they currently have on their Roster. This could work, And a 16 Team Tournament would be a nice way to kick it off!
